Overview of the Tech 4 Rank
Establishment: The rank of Technician Fourth Grade was created on January 26, 1942, to acknowledge enlisted soldiers who possessed technical skills but were not trained as combat leaders. It was part of a broader system of technician ranks that included Technician Third Grade (T/3) and Technician Fifth Grade (T/5).
Insignia: The insignia for T/4 featured a block "T" below three chevrons, distinguishing it from other ranks. Those who held this rank were often addressed as "sergeant," similar to the corresponding non-commissioned officer at the same pay grade.
